Frequently Asked Questions & Tree Tips
How can I care for my trees myself cost effectively?
The single best thing for your trees and shurbs is Mulch. Mulch is often applied on the root ball with the intention of conserving moisture in the root ball. Mulch allows protection of the roots which in turn allow for greater protection of the tree or shrub. This can also prevent weeds from growing around the tree - assuring proper nutrients reach the roots promoting a healthy living plant.
Why should I hire a professional to care for the trees on my property?
A recent study published in the Journal of Arboriculture have shown that it is more beneficial for the tree's health and your wallet to prune them on a regular basis. Real Estate Appraisers say that trees can increase the value of your property up to 25% if properly cared for, not only that, but a tree's value is based on its location, species, and condition. The Council of Tree and Landscape Appraisers (CTLA) produces a guide to tree and plant appraisal, teaching real estate appraisers how to assess the value of trees.
What should I look for when hiring a tree service company?
When hiring an arborist to care for your property, ask for copies of current valid certificates of liability insurance and workers compensation insurance. If you hire a tree service company and they don't have these two things, it's best not to deal with these fly by night operations. Ask for local references, we have 12 years of references. Get a detailed written estimate for the services and cost of your tree work. Be wary of companies or individuals who do the following: demand payment in advance, advertise topping and/or low prices, start work without a written estimate, cannot produce a valid certificate of insurance.

What is the difference between stump removal and stump grinding?
Stump removal is digging out and hauling off a stump.
Stump grinding uses a machine to "shred" the stump in the ground. This process produces stump grindings, which is a mixture of wood chips and dirt that gets backfilled into the resulting hole.
